Male BXD mice were fed either a standard chow diet (CD) or a high-fat diet (HFD) from 8 to 29 weeks of age. The effects of diet on the accumulation of 27 different bile acids (BAs) in plasma, feces and liver were assessed by liquid chromatography - high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). The effects of HFD diet were measured for body weight at 8 wks, at 20 wks (at 9 am and immediately after the glucose kinetic test), and prior to sacrifice. Postprandial plasma glucose (following Ensure Plus oral gavage) and plasma BA levels were both determined at 0, 30, 60 min at 20 wks for CD and HFD fed mice. BAs in feces were measured at 24 wks, and in liver at 29 wks. Organs were weighed at sacrifice (29 wks).

Experimental groups in this study:
• Chow diet (CD)     • High fat diet (HFD)

Procedures conducted:
• body weight  At 8, 20 and 29 wks of age.
• glucose tolerance  Plasma glucose levels at 0, 30, 60 min post oral gavage of Ensure Plus, overday fast.
• biomarker quantification  Bile acid levels in plasma, feces, and liver.
• organ weights  Liver, spleen, kidney, fat pads, muscles, cecum.
• organ dimensions  Small intestine length.
