ProtocolTen females from each strain, aged between 8 and 13 weeks, were used in all behavioral tests. Data from four testing sessions are available:
Animal DocumentationSee Koide et al. 2000 for additional information. Eight strains, NJL/Ms, BFM/2Ms, HMI/Ms, KJR/Ms, SWN/Ms, BLG2/Ms, MSM/Ms and JF1/Ms, were established as inbred strains after 20 generation of brother-sister mating at National Institute of Genetics (NIG, Mishima, Japan). BFM/2Ms was split from the original stock BFM, which was kept by Dr. F. Bonhomme, at F12 in 1980 (Bonhomme and Guenet 1996). The origin and genetic profile of JF1/Ms has been reported previously (Koide et al. 1998). CAST/EiJ, C57BL/6J, and DBA/1J were originally obtained from The Jackson Laboratory and introduced in to NIG in 1989, 1984, and 1982, respectively where they have been maintained by sister- brother matings.
All strains were maintained at NIG in a 12h/12h light/dark
cycle with lights coming on at 08.00 h and food and water
available ad libitum.
