Animal Documentation

Source of Mice: Mouse strains were all purchased from the Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, ME, USA), except for one strain (C57BL/6NCrl) being obtained from Charles River Germany GmbH (Sulzfeld, Germany)

Age (wks): 7-15 wks at testing

Breeding: Colonies were established via brother x sister or offspring x parent mating, at the preclinical research center of the Universitätsklinikum Erlangen. In most strains, 12 male and 12 female mice were used in this study; with the youngest aged 48 days (7 weeks) and the oldest aged 101 days (15 weeks). The use of a narrower age range was not possible due to restrictions in space, and was unavoidable and disclosed in the results.

Test Facility: Preclinical research center of the Universitätsklinikum Erlangen

Feed: Chow ad libitum (ssniff-Spezialdiäten GmbH, V1124-300, Soest, Germany)

Water: Ionized tap water ad libitum

Cage Density: 2-5

Temperature (°C): 22 +/- 2

Humidity (%): 55 +/- 10

Light / Dark Cycle: 12:12h, regulated between 0430h to 1630h

Care and Use Statement: Procedures reviewed by the local animal ethics committee of University of Erlangen and approved by the local district government (Regierung von Unterfranken). All experiments conducted in accordance with the Guidelines of the European Parliament Council.
