Circulating soluble adhesion molecules are useful markers to predict several clinical conditions. To determine genetic factors influencing plasma levels of VCAM-1 and P-selectin, authors performed QTL analysis on an intercross between B6 and C3H strains deficient in apolipoprotein E. 234 female F2 mice were selected to do the experiments, and the analysis results indicate VCAM-1 and P-selectin levels are complex traits regulated by multiple genes, at least partially, by acting on body weight and lipid metabolism in hyperlipidemic apoE-/- mice.
