Vendor Mice were purchased at 3-4 wks of age from the The Jackson Laboratory (JAX®, Bar Harbor, ME) Ages Tested for social behavior at 6-7-wks of age Feed Purina 5058 chow given ad libitum Water Ad libitum Housing Mice were housed separately by strain, 3-4 mice per plastic (polycarbonate) tub cage Bedding Bed-o-Cobs (The Andersons, Maumee, OH) Humidity 35-65% Temperature 23 °C Photoperiod 12/12 light/dark cycle with lights off at 7:00 pm Health status All procedures were conducted in strict compliance with the policies on animal welfare of the National Institutes of Health and the University of North Carolina (stated in the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals," Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources, National Research Council, 1996 edition), and approved by the University of North Carolina Animal Care and Use Committee.
