There are two studies in this project on different cohorts of mice. Study 1 was designed to elicit all types of social interactions where one male mouse of a pair was placed in a cage and allowed to explore freely for 15 min. A second male mouse of the same strain was added to the cage. Behavior of the pair was video recorded and later scored by a naive observer. Strain differences were not observed for allogrooming, barbering, or huddling (no cases observed for these activities), and butt sniffing and face sniffing (all mice were observed doing these activities). Strain differences were observed for mounting, wrestling, and following. Study 2 was designed to reduce the number of aggressive behaviors and allow more positive social interactions by adding males of the same strain to the cage simultaneously. Behavior of the pair was video recorded and later scored by a naive observer. In this study, strain differences were not observed for mounting (except one mouse). Strain differences were observed for sniffing, negative social interactions, and positive social interactions. All data for Study 1 and 2 are in the download file for individual animals.
