An intercross of similar inbred mouse strains, C57BL/6J and C58/J, was carried out as a control cross for a mutagenesis mapping study in behavior research. The authors identified significant QTL in F2 progeny. The locus on Chr 8 and its interaction effect form the core set of QTL controlling activation and anxiety behaviors, with additional loci on Chr 1 and 6 present in a subset of the behaviors. Mice were assessed using the open field test.
